Active Directory is the “directory service” portion of the Windows 2000 operating system. Active Directory manages the identities and relationships of the distributed resources that make up a network environment. It stores information about network-based entities (e.g., applications, files, printers and people) and provides a consistent way to name, describe, locate, access, manage and secure information about these resources. It’s the central authority that manages the identities and brokers the relationships between these distributed resources, enabling them to work together.

The general ledger provides a record of each financial transaction that takes place and holds account information that is needed to prepare financial statements. Transaction data is segregated by the following: assets, liabilities, net position, revenues, expenses and deferred inflows and outflows of resources.
The Human Resources/Compensation Management System used to manage and pay the Commonwealth’s employees.

Learning Management System is an application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting, automation, and delivery of educational courses, training programs, materials or learning and development programs.
Labor Cost Management (LCM) is a customized module within MMARS used to provide the link between the payroll system (HR/CMS) and MMARS. LCM is used to distribute labor costs to multiple accounts, request labor distribution rules, and process labor adjustments.
The Massachusetts Management, Accounting and Reporting System (MMARS): A financial management and reporting system specifically designed to support the financial functions performed by the Commonwealth.

The Massachusetts Budget Application is the official budget development and spending plan application for Commonwealth entities for the part of the budget process managed by the Executive Office for Administration and Finance (“A&F”). Users of this application include Executive Departments, Constitutional and Independent Offices, and Higher Education institutions.

Capital Spending Management software.
The Massachusetts Retirement Information System is a SaaS solution built using SAGITEC’s NEOSPIN software framework. Interfaces from HR/CMS provide MARIS with data on employee demographics such as age and address, hours worked, and deductions for retirement contributions.
The Massachusetts Group Insurance Commission system is a custom-built application that tracks benefited workers’ participation in health, dental, vision, optional life, and disability insurance plans. There are interfaces between HR/CMS and MAGIC for creating employee shells as well as setting benefit deduction amounts in HR/CMS.
Also referred to as change management. Change management are activities that support the successful adoption by users and organization of new business processes or changes in technology; includes communication, training, readiness preparation for adoption, user support after go-live, etc. Note: this is different than technical change management or change releases which is the practice of monitoring and managing technical changes to a system.
Group of stakeholders who are responsible for performing program work as a regular part of their assigned duties. The Program Team will include senior technology and business experts with a deep and a broad understanding of Commonwealth business functions. The Program Team will serve as subject matter experts and will identify and facilitate the availability of additional experts as needed. Includes: Creating project and specify capabilities needed and timeline, developing cost plan, selecting vendors, assigning resources, setting up funds and controls, tracking costs, resources, deliverables, and other reporting, managing change requests and closing program out.
